KITAVA is one of Lithuania’s pioneers of modernized folk music, with 26 years of creating, performing, and exploring new dimensions of Lithuanian music.

Founded in Šiauliai in 2001 by Rasa Stoškuvienė and Kęstutis Stoškus, KITAVA was among the first Lithuanian groups to boldly merge traditional Lithuanian folklore with the sound and energy of contemporary music. The band’s music blends authentic Lithuanian folk melodies and vocal traditions with modern rhythms, melodies, and instrumentation, placing KITAVA within the realms of modern folk, post-folk, and world music.

 

The band’s repertoire features both original compositions and Lithuanian folk songs brought to life through fresh, contemporary arrangements. With every live performance, KITAVA explores unexpected musical connections, creatively blends diverse styles, and creates a distinctive, dynamic sound charged with emotion and energy.

Throughout its career, KITAVA has released five studio albums, performed at countless concerts, and built a devoted community of listeners. In 2026, celebrating 25 years of creative work, the band released and presented its anniversary vinyl record, Kvepia medumi (Smells Like Honey).
